A first date in Little Venice
You cannot talk about Colmar without mentioning Little Venice, the district crossed by the Lauch where colourful houses are reflected in the water. For the best view, meet on the Rue Turenne bridge, ideally early in the morning before the crowds arrive. A boat ride beneath the flowered façades then makes for an unforgettable first date: you glide along slowly, talk quietly, and the town drifts by like a postcard.
From the Quai de la Poissonnerie to the Tanners’ Quarter
Carry on along the Quai de la Poissonnerie, the old fishermen’s district, where half-timbered houses seem to lean over the canal. Nearby, the Tanners’ Quarter has kept its tall houses with open attics, once used to dry hides. Opposite, the covered market, built in 1865, is perfect for a tasty break by the water: cheeses, pretzels and Alsatian specialities to share on the terrace.
Colmar in every season
In spring and summer, the balconies overflow with geraniums; in winter, the Christmas market turns the old town into a glowing wonderland, perfect for a mulled wine together. For a successful evening, nothing beats a traditional winstub, the cosy little taverns where you dine elbow to elbow amid warm wood panelling. On Lyad, members from Colmar share their favourite places, a great way to find someone to discover them with.
